Donny van de Beek appears to have gone through a body transformation this summer and bulked up as he looks to turn around his fortunes at Manchester United.

The Dutch midfielder endured a bitterly disappointing first season at Old Trafford following a £35m switch from Ajax last year, making just four Premier League starts.

Van de Beek has been linked with a move away from United this summer, having seemingly failed to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far.

However, it appears the 24-year-old will be given another shot with the Red Devils, judging by what has been seen in pre-season.

Van de Beek was handed the captain's armband for the recent friendly against Brentford, showing Solskjaer values his contribution to the side.

But he also appears to have massively bulked up over the summer, having missed out on Holland's squad for Euro 2020.

According to The Athletic, his physical change has been noted by his team-mates, who are all said to be very impressed with his efforts in the gym.

It's thought that Van de Beek followed in the footsteps of fellow Dutchmen Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart by enrolling at the famous FysioConcept training centre in Amsterdam.

The player was given nutrition and workout plans to help him build up his frame, and it certainly appears to have done the job.

Van de Beek's slight build was generally noticeable in the famously physical Premier League last season.

And with United believed to be looking for a new defensive midfielder, Solskjaer may have already found his ideal solution in Van de Beek, who has played in deep and more attacking roles in his career.

The United players impression was clear to see in a recent Instagram post, not least from skipper Harry Maguire.

He jokingly commented on the snap of Van de Beek: "Don’t stretch that armband."
