But Nuno Espirito Santo and Co have been buoyed by the news Son has extended his contract.

The South Korea star, 29, will now remain at the club until the end of the 2024-25 season.

A Tottenham statement read: "We are delighted to announce that Heung-Min Son has signed a new four-year contract with the club, which will run until 2025."

On signing the deal, Son said: "“It was already a big honour to play here for six years.

"The club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here.

“It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff.

"There was no decision. It was easy.

"I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon."

'NEW CHAPTER'

Managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, added: “We are pleased to have agreed a new long-term contract with Heung-Min Son as we move towards the start of a new season .

"[It's] a new chapter for the club with Nuno Espirito Santo.

“Everyone can see the real positive impact he has on the club, both on and off the field.

"We are delighted that he will play a part in what we are trying to achieve in the coming years.”

Son joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen in a £22million deal and has gone on to score 107 times in 280 games in all competitions.

The 91-cap South Korea star has formed a sensational partnership with Kane in recent seasons.

And while that relationship may be broken this summer after Kane revealed he wants to quit, Son is determined to stay on.
