The Supreme Court in Madrid has confirmed the acquittal ruling that Xabi Alonso received in his tax fraud case for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The legal process has been long, especially since a Provincial Court in Madrid acquitted the current Real Sociedad B head coach, however the Supreme Court ordered a retrial.

Once acquitted again, the matter is now considered closed by the highest legal body in the city of Madrid.

Alonso was a tax resident in Spain and paid personal income tax in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012, but he didn't declare the income obtained by the exploitation of his image rights.

This was because the image rights had been transferred to a company based in the Portuguese city of Madeira.

The court determined that Alonso acted in the belief that what he was doing was in accordance with the law, although the facts as they were presented did fit into the category of tax fraud.
