Marcus Rashford is concentrating on England vs Germany at Euro 2020 but is considering having an operation after the tournament to sort out his long-term injury problems

Marcus Rashford has dealt a huge blow to Manchester United after revealing he could miss the start of next season.

Rashford has been dealing with a shoulder problem that could force him to undergo an operation following the Euros.

The striker will make a decision after the tournament has finished and would be sidelined for up to six weeks if he goes under the knife.

The 23-year-old has been playing through the pain barrier for several months to help United reach the Europa League final and now contribute to England's hopes of conquering Europe.

Rashford has also had back and foot problems after making 63 appearances for club and country since the start of last season.

"It's either an operation or I don't get an operation. Probably my shoulder, but I'm not 100 per cent sure if I need it yet.

"So I'll just take it as it comes. I'll finish strong here and like I said, I've got a few weeks off to just relax and decide what I'm going to do.

"The doctors have not said yet (how long he could be sidelined). The reason I don't know is that when the season was going, and before I came here, I knew there was no chance I was going to be getting the operation.

"So I did not know how long the operation would put me out for. I never bothered to ask the question. I am fully concentrated on here. When the tournament is finished then I will ask the question."

Rashford has ordered England to dump Germany out of the Euros and rewrite history.

The Three Lions face their old rivals in a huge last 16 showdown at Wembley on Tuesday.

England have not beaten the Germans in a major tournament since 2000 - and won just one of their last five meetings with Joachim Low's men.

Next week's game also gives Gareth Southgate the chance to avenge 25 years of hurt following his penalty shoot-out miss against Germany in the semi finals of Euro 96.

Germany have proved to be England's nemesis down the years and facing them has tended to fill the Three Lions with dread.

But Rashford insists there is nothing to fear and wants Southgate's side to seize the chance to become legends.

The Manchester United ace said: "We are being put in a position where we are blessed to be part of that history.

"Our main focus is to win the game, but if we do it gets put in history. That's how great teams are remembered for many, many years.

"There is no point fearing the past. You can't go back and change it. What we can change is the result of the next game and put ourselves in the best possible position to win the game."
