Manchester United 'in pole position' for Nikola Milenkovic

Nikola Milenkovic's Fiorentina stint

Milenkovic joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2017.

The centre-back left his home country of Serbia – where he had previously been plying his trade with FK Partizan Belgrade – for a reported fee of around £4.5m.

And Milenkovic has since gone on to feature 126 times for the Serie A outfit, notching 11 goals and one assist in the process.

The 23-year-old has also managed 26 appearances for Serbia's senior side, after making his debut back in 2018.

Man United eyeing Milenkovic

Milenkovic, who will have just one year left on his contract in the summer, has previously been linked with some top Premier League sides.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United were credited with an interest in the Serbian earlier this year.

And now, fresh reports from Italy have once again tipped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to swoop for the defender.

As per Calciomercato, Fiorentina appear resigned to the idea of losing Milenkovic at the end of this season.

The report adds that both Inter and AC Milan have 'followed' the stopper in recent months. However, it is Manchester United whom the Italian outlet claim are in pole position for his services.

No potential fee is mentioned in the piece. But, when taking into account their star defender's contract situation, Fiorentina do not exactly look in a great position to make big-money demands.

As such, whilst Milenkovic is probably not the big-name central defender most Man United fans want their side to partner Harry Maguire with, landing him on the cheap could prove a shrewd piece of business, opening up funds to reinforce elsewhere – including the right-wing spot, at centre-forward and in defensive midfield.
