Valencia players walked off the pitch during their match against Cadiz this afternoon after alleged racist abuse against Mouctar Diakhaby.

Diakhaby was visibly furious and had to be held back by Valencia team-mate Kevin Gameiro when the alleged incident occurred.

The La Liga game was poised at 1-1 before the away side left the field after confronting the referee and explaining the situation.

Soon after, however, Valencia tweeted confirming the game would continue - and their players returned from the dressing room.

"The team have held a meeting and decided to continue the game, in order to fight for the honour of the club, but denounce racism of any kind.#CádizValencia," they wrote.

The incident took place on the half-hour mark, with Diakhaby responding angrily towards Cadiz man Juan Cala after allegedly hearing a racial insult.

Valencia boss Javi Gracia substituted the player when the game resumed.

Soon after the restart, Valencia again tweeted: "We offer our complete backing to @Diakhaby_5.

"The player, who had received a racial insult, requested that his teammates return to the pitch.

"WE SUPPORT YOU MOUCTAR."

Cala opened the scoring for Cadiz in the 14th minute before Gameiro hit back just five minutes later.

The former received a booking during the altercation.

The incident comes just months after Istanbul Basaksehir players walked off the pitch after Demba Ba was racially insulted during the Champions League clash.

On that occasion, the game was halted and played the following evening after the Turkish side refused to return to the pitch.

To add, the Valencia situation comes less than 24 hours after West Brom striker scored against Chelsea and suffered subsequent abuse on social media.
