Official: Aguero to leave Manchester City in June

Sergio Aguero has announced that he will leave Manchester City when his contract expires on June 30, 2021.

There had been some speculation over the Argentine's future at the Etihad Stadium, with the striker having made just eight Premier League appearances this season.

The 32-year-old first signed for City in the summer of 2011 and has played under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola since then.

Aguero will leave City having become the club's all-time record goalscorer with a total of 257 goals in 384 appearances.

Of those 257 goals, undoubtedly the most important came at the end of his first of 10 seasons at City with a dramatic winner against QPR to deliver the Premier League title.

During his 10 years in Manchester, the former Atletico Madrid forward won 13 trophies, including four Premier League titles, five League Cups, one FA Cup and three Community Shields.

"I will continue to give it my utmost for the rest of the season to win more titles and bring more joy to the fans," Aguero said in a statement on Twitter.

"Then, a new stage with new challenges will begin, and I am fully ready to face them with the same passion and professionalism that I have always dedicated to continue competing at the highest level."

"Sergio's contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated," said City's chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

"His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football.

"This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches. There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead.

"In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent [Kompany] and David [Silva]. And we look forward to the opportunity to bid Sergio a fitting farewell at the end of the season."
