The wife of San Marino goalkeeper Elia Benedettini couldn't be at Wembley on Thursday night but it didn't stop her showing support.

Benedettini impressed between the posts despite the minnows being beaten 5-0 with the Cesena star making a number of fine saves.

He frustrated Jesse Lingard through the night and made a great fingertip save to push James Ward-Prowse's free-kick onto the post.

His wife Maddalena Loglisci appeared to be watching from home, though she regularly posted to her Instagram story.

Sharing clips of saves that her hubby made, Maddalena posted blue heart emojis in support throughout the 90 minutes.

Benedettini actually made ten saves with England having a remarkable 32 shots throughout the night.

Former England goalkeeper Rob Green said: "The man of the match was Elia Benedettini. There you go.

"That performance can't do him any harm and he pulled off some really good saves. He stopped England from scoring a barrel-load of goals."

Ward-Prowse opened the scoring as he slotted home before Dominic Calvert-Lewin found his way past Benedettini.

Raheem Sterling found the net in the first half too with Calvert-Lewin bagging England's fourth shortly after the break.

Ollie Watkins made his Three Lions debut against San Marino and grabbed England's fifth with seven minutes to play.

Watkins told ITV: "Unbelievable, what I have dreamt about. All day in the hotel I was just thinking that I hope to get a chance to come on, enjoy it and get the opportunity to score. I'm speechless to be honest.

"It's been a good journey. I just feel honoured that I can come out here and play for my country with these players and score on my debut. Over the moon.

"I just wanted to get on pitch for a start. I have and can't believe it.

"I'm going to take each game as it comes, focus on my club form, play consistently for Aston Villa, score for them, help the team push up the table and hopefully get into Europe and take it from there."
