Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani is in a peculiar position at Old Trafford, with reports suggesting he wants to leave the club this summer. The Uruguayan is also struggling from injuries, and could have his decision over his future made for him.

Cavani's future is still up in the air as the end of his contract approaches.

The Uruguayan veteran will be a free agent this summer for a second straight year if he doesn't stay at United.

The Red Devils have a clause in his contract allowing for them to activate a second year in the deal, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2022.

But Cavani's father recently expressed he believes the striker wants to leave this summer and join Argentine side Boca Juniors.

On the pitch Cavani has looked impressive.

Having signed for nothing, he has successfully provided Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with another option up front.

Anthony Martial will lead the line if the United boss wants more defensive work and freedom of movement up front, whereas Cavani will play as a poacher and has shone.

From his first 18 Premier League appearances - mostly from the bench - he has six goals and two assists, and has successfully blended into the team whenever called upon.

But the drama hasn't escaped his actual football, either, as the Manchester Evening News claims United officials are apparently unhappy with him over his recovery from injury.

Cavani has been sidelined with a muscular injury recently, and has only featured once since February 14th.

United's medical staff have apparently given him the all-clear to return to action, but he is still yet to be involved in any match day squads.

On Wednesday, Solskjaer confirmed that Cavani will miss out on United's trip to face AC Milan but failed to provide much of a reason.

He said: "Unfortunately, it looks like Edinson has got a bit of a reaction to training today and didn’t feel ready to travel."

United are set to go after a new centre-forward this summer, with Erling Haaland at the top of their transfer wish-list.

And with Cavani earning a reported £200,000, letting him go would free up a fair amount of money for them to go all-out for the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid.

It seems Cavani's future at Old Trafford at least could be out of his control.
