Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named Cristiano Ronaldo as the one Manchester United icon he'd love to bring back to Old Trafford. Ronaldo shot to stardom at United under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, winning three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy before he left to join Real Madrid.

While the Portuguese sensation went on to reach meteoric heights in the game at the Bernabeu, battling with Lionel Messi in the Ballon d'Or race, rumours continued to persist of a potential return to United.

Ronaldo has always spoken fondly of his time in England and there have been numerous occasions where the Red Devils have reportedly considered an approach.

Just last summer, his agent Jorge Mendes supposedly offered United the chance to bring Ronaldo back.

With the 36-year-old's current contract set to expire in 2022, Mendes was said to be sounding out an offer from United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Both clubs though 'said no' to making an offer, but it appears as though Solskjaer may not have been on the same page as United officials.

Solskjaer was answering questions from United supporters in a Q&A on the club's website when one fan asked if he could choose one club legend to be in his current squad, who would he pick.

Roy Keane was the player who Solskjaer clearly felt would make the biggest impact from the host of players he played with during his United career.

But the United boss ended up selecting Ronaldo as the player he would most love to have at his disposal.

"There’s a few players I’ve played with that I’d love to have in my team, of course," Solskjaer said.

"I’d love the player Roy Keane, I’m not sure if I could manage him though.

"I’d sign him every day of the week, Roy was so influential but then again, I played with Cristiano [Ronaldo] and he’s been the best player in the world alongside Messi for the past 10-15 years now, so Cristiano.

"You’d take him in your team, for sure.”

Ronaldo has won back-to-back Serie A titles in his first two full seasons with Juventis, but it's been in Europe where they have disappointed once again.

They've failed to get past the quarter-final stage in the Champions League and were knocked out of this year's competition by Porto earlier this week.

Juventus also look set to miss out on the Serie A title for the first time since 2011 with Inter Milan currently the runaway leaders.

But Ronaldo has still been one of the standout performers in Italy this season, scoring 20 goals in just 22 league matches.
