Jurgen Klopp sends Michael Edwards clear transfer message on mass summer overhaul

Liverpool's title defence has fallen by the wayside this season with the battle now on for a top four place.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp isn't ready to press the panic putton and push for a mass overhaul of his squad in the summer transfer window. The Reds raced to glory in the Premier League last season, winning their first top flight title in 30 years.

And the additions of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota last summer only appeared to strengthen Klopp's squad in their bid to defend their title.

However, Klopp's squad was soon struck down with an ongoing crisis kickstarted by Virgil van Dijk's season-ending injury.

The Liverpool boss has been forced to use 16 different centre-back partnerships this season with a new one set to line up against Sheffield United on Sunday.

But there has also been some speculation surrounding players further up the field who have struggled to make an impact this season.

Klopp admits that some changes will be required in the summer transfer window, but he's not ready to start a complete "rebuild".

"I don’t think it is time for a massive rebuild like how I understand it: six seven out, running contracts but trying to get rid of them and bring in all the new faces," Klopp said.

"The squad of this year didn’t have the chance to play together one time really.

"I think it would make sense to have a look at that but on top of that of course little readjustments will happen.

"Reacting on the situation but planning at the same time for the future and all these kinds of things.

"I am not sure we can do that in the summer but that is what we will try.”

Liverpool head into Sunday's match against the Blades 19 points adrift of the league leaders Manchester City.

More pressing though will be getting back into the top four with Liverpool losing their last four league matches.

But Klopp is up for the challenge and believes his squad are capable of putting their dreadful form behind them.

"We are still Liverpool, and that is what I love what I know, and that of course gives me energy, so I am not here only for the big celebrations, no I am here for the work," Klopp added.

"And if it is the dirty work, the hard work, no problem.

"We will try everything this season, but however, there are so many things we can learn from it.

"So what we go through now, we have to sort problems now, immediately, and in the long term we can get the benefit of what we are going through in the moment, that is clear.”
