Guendouzi's Arsenal stint

Matteo Guendouzi joined Arsenal in the summer of 2018, following a stint in the second tier of French football.

Despite his age and limited experience at the top level, Guendouzi showcased clear signs of promise early in his Arsenal career.

However, the now 21-year-old's form proved somewhat erratic, with Guendouzi having even been compared to a headless chicken due to his non-stop style.

Nevertheless, when Mikel Arteta first took the reins at Arsenal, the Frenchman was afforded plenty of game-time.

This was only until he was accused of taunting several Brighton stars over finances during a meeting back in June, however. In turn, Guendouzi was not afforded a single appearance over the remainder of last season.

Guendouzi has of course since been loaned to German outfit Hertha Berlin for the 2020/21 campaign.

The youngster has endured a rather mixed season to date, with Hertha, after a decent start, having been dragged into a relegation battle.

Regarding the possibility of a permanent stay in Germany for Guendouzi, recent reports suggest that such an outcome looks unlikely, with Hertha said to be looking into replacements for the Arsenal man.

In turn, it appears as though Guendouzi will be back at the Emirates in the summer.

However, recent comments on the part of the midfielder are unlikely to ease any remaining tension between he and his parent club.

Guendouzi was asked to name the best player he has ever played with, to which he responded:

"Mesut Ozil.

"Technically, whether he's on the pitch during a match or on the training ground he has a technical ease.

"He reads the game better than everyone else. He's a player I've loved playing with."

The youngster was then drawn on the best manager he has worked under, to which he simply replied:

"Unai Emery."
