He travelled to the South Coast for the 1-0 cup defeat but headed back at the last minute because of 'personal matter.'

But Auba, 31, has confirmed he will be back home on Wednesday night with his mother recovering.

He wrote in a statement online: "Hey guys, thank you so much for all the messages and calls over the last few days.

"My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her.

"She's already much better now and I will be back home tonight. I'm more than grateful to the doctors and nurses helping her get through this.

"And of course, thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday! I'm more determined than ever to keep our momentum going!

"Thank you all again - I really am beyond blessed to receive this level of support and love from all of you and I can't wait to be back."

Aubameyang is now expected to be back in the squad for Saturday's Premier League clash with rivals Manchester United.

The star forward has struggled for form this season but silenced his critics in his last outing against Newcastle with two goals in a 3-0 win.

Arsenal have hit a rich vein of form picking up 16 points from a possible 18.

A 3-1 win over the Saints on Tuesday catapulted the Gunners up to eight and five points off the top four.
