Leroy Sane has admitted he would “make a different decision” over his infamous back tattoo if given the opportunity.

Bayern Munich star Sane had a huge tattoo of himself done on his back in 2017 while the German forward was impressing at Manchester City.

He spent four days having the image of himself celebrating a goal for City inked on his back.

It attracted plenty of headlines with Sane going on to have the City badge altered to the German national team shirt design.

And the 25-year-old has expressed regret at getting the artwork done, telling Der Spiegel: "I was young. Today I would make a different decision.

"I was someone who first had to run into the wall, especially when I was young, even if it hurt, in order to learn from it.

"I was amazed that this topic got so big in the media. I was still an absolute youngster.

“In Germany there were players much more important than me, and yet this tattoo was debated."

Sane has had a mixed time with Bayern Munich, recently being substituted after himself coming on.

"When I saw my number on the substitution board, I knew there would be discussions about me," he said of the incident.

"When someone like Thomas Muller stands up for you so strongly in front of the TV cameras, this shows you that the team accepts you.

“I know that the club is behind me, otherwise they wouldn't have brought me. But I'm working very hard to get there."

Thomas Muller had shown his support, saying: "Hansi [Flick] must have had his reasons. Personally, I really enjoy playing with Leroy and I think we had more offensive moves down the right when he came on.

"I don't think it will be that long until we start talking about Leroy in a different way. He is very close to breaking through.

"He shouldn't get frustrated by this but motivated. It doesn't make it any easier that we're struggling a little as a team at the moment."
