Leeds United have been tipped to sign former Chelsea striker Diego Costa on a free transfer after the 32-year-old reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid earlier this week that saw his contract terminated.

The experienced forward has since been linked with moves to a number of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Wolves.

However, former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips believes Leeds should make a move for the Spain international, telling Football Insider : "They might need someone like Diego Costa, he might be looking at Leeds and thinking: 'Look at the way they play football, I could score goals in there.'

"I know he's been linked with Wolves but he's a free agent, isn't he, so it would not surprise me with Bielsa if he pitched up at Leeds."

Phillips is not the only pundit to have suggested that Costa would be a good fit at Elland Road, with Arsenal legend Ray Parlour claiming the forward would be a good option to provide competition for Patrick Bamford.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Parlour said: "Diego Costa would be great. He would give a little bit of competition to Bamford, who has been excellent this year."

However, Wolves have been installed as the bookmakers favourite to sign Costa, given the club's need for a striker with Raul Jimenez recovering from a fractured skull and their well-known links to Costa's agent Jorge Mendes.

And ex-Wolves midfielder Jamie O'Hara believes Costa would be "perfect" for Nuno Espirito Santo's side, telling talkSPORT : "He fits a certain team and a certain club.

"Wolves is the perfect answer. They have got the link [Mendes]. Jimenez is obviously injured, I'm not having Fabio Silva at the minute because he's too young to be playing as a number nine for Wolves. There's too much to carry.

"Bringing in someone like Diego Costa would be perfect for them, it's just whether they could get him and pay the wages."
