Joe Cole has been slated by Liverpool fans for his criticism of the team ahead of taking on Crystal Palace.

The Reds secured their place at the top of the Premier League for Christmas with a 7-0 win over the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

Jurgen Klopp’s side only needed a draw to secure this, having taken first place from Tottenham during the week with a 2-1 win at Anfield.

It means they have the highest goal-scoring rate for the 2020/21 campaign so far on 36 goals, putting them on a goal difference of 17.

But Cole, who spent two seasons with three seasons with the Reds, had a very different perspective on the champions ahead of kick-off.

Using the touch screen on BT Sport , the 39-year-old had picked out some moments of poor defending from the win over Spurs.

He picked out some position errors of Fabinho, who is not a regular centre-back but has been filling in for the injured Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

While the former midfielder also criticised youngsters Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams, showing the fact that the Reds play a high line.

And his analysis finished with: ““These little mistakes are the reason Liverpool are in the position they are!”

And his comments led to tirade of criticism from the Anfield faithful on Twitter.

“Top of the league Joe - that’s where we are,” one supporter said.

Another commented: “What position is that lad? Top of the table? F***ing s*** that.”

While a third made a demand to the broadcaster, with:”BT need to get rid of Joe Cole - he talks so much s***.”

And a fourth added: “Joe Cole is another level of s***-talking pundits.”
A fifth suggested the pundit was not prepared for the game, with: “Its like Joe Cole doesn't even watch football and comes on the tele having done zero research so spends his time spouting s***e.

“BT Sport, you actually pay this man.”

With a final supporter simply saying: “Joe Cole is a dreadful pundit.”

It comes as pundit Gary Neville also took aim at Reds boss Klopp for his position on Premier League clubs rejecting the five substitutions rule.
