Martinez’s Inter stint
Lautaro Martinez has been plying his trade in Italy for around two and a half years now
This comes after Inter Milan snapped the budding young talent up from Argentinian outfit Racing Club for a fee believed to be around £22.5m.
And, despite having had zero experience in Europe before making the move to Inter, Martinez has since taken to the Italian top-flight like a duck to water.
The 2019/20 campaign saw the 23-year-old go from strength to strength under the guidance of Antonio Conte.
In 35 league outings last season, Martinez netted 14 and assisted five.
And the 19-time capped international has since carried this impressive form into the current term, notching five goals and two assists in just nine Serie A outings.
Guardiola eyeing Martinez
Such fine form on Martinez’s part, understandably, has also piqued the interest of other top clubs across the continent.
Both Barcelona and Manchester City were linked with the hitman over the summer.
And now, a recent report in the English media has reignited City’s links to the forward.
The Sun claim that Inter want to tie Martinez down to a new deal, despite the Argentine having just under three years left on his current deal.
However, it is added that the striker himself wants his current wage packet quadrupled, before committing to remaining at the San Siro.
Whilst Martinez is said to be happy at Inter, he is less so with being one of the club’s lower-paid senior stars.
In terms of transfer interest in Martinez, the report suggests that Man City boss Pep Guardiola is keeping a close eye on the situation, and has been tracking the attacker for around a year.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are also credited with an interest in his signature.
