Luka Doncic reacts to the Dallas Mavericks' Real Madrid-style jersey

The Dallas Mavericks have released their city edition jersey for the 2020/21 NBA season, and the white and gold design will be a familiar look for star player Luka Doncic. The jersey itself bears a striking resemblance to the one worn by the 21-year-old in the 2017/18 campaign with Real Madrid, a year which saw them win the Liga Endesa title, the Supercopa de Espana and the EuroLeague.

This has seen the Mavs move away from their traditional blue uniform, and they explained the reasoning for doing so.

"A wink to one of the most iconic and powerful symbols of the city of Dallas, the legend of Pegasus," they said in a statement. The Mavericks, who last season returned to the playoffs, chose Kristaps Porzingis, formerly of Baloncesto Sevilla, as a model to present their new jersey just a week before the start of the training camp for the new season that will get underway on December 22.

This new white and gold jersey replaces the one used last season, which had blue with green at the edges and with letters inspired by the urban graphics of street graffiti. In addition, the uniform will be a reference to the tenth anniversary of the first ring won by the franchise - in 2011 against LeBron James' Miami Heat - and the team's 40th birthday in Dallas.
