Chris Sutton hits out at £240m Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jadon Sancho claim

The Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund aces, 22 and 20 respectively, are two of England's highest-valued players

Chris Sutton has slammed a fan's claim that Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is worth twice as much as Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho.

Bundesliga big boys Dortmund value the England international at a whopping £120million, a fee Manchester United refused to meet when trying to acquire the 20-year-old's services this past summer.

During a recent episode BBC Five Live's 606 show, one footy fan claimed Alexander-Arnold commands a transfer fee double that of his England team-mate.

The fan's staggering £240million valuation of the Liverpool right-back stunned Sutton, who couldn't help but tear apart the outlandish notion.

He said: "I am not disagreeing with you [that Alexander-Arnold is a top player]. I just find this argument so petty.

"You are judging Sancho too quickly and the fact of the matter is that he has not had a great start to the season. He was very good last season.

"Give him a chance! The figure on his head [£120 million] is not his fault.

"I know we all make comparisons but to say that Trent Alexander-Arnold is twice the money Sancho is - and saying he’s worth £240 million - is ridiculous. Ridiculous!"

Although Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the world, the suggestion he's the most valuable player on the planet is outrageous, to say the least.

And given the nature of the transfer market, it's highly unlikely a defender will ever become the most expensive player on the planet, a title currently held by Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar.

Alexander-Arnold, 22, is set to be on the sidelines for the next month with a calf injury, which he picked up in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend.
