Everton's chances of signing Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco are significantly boosted having Carlo Ancelotti as a manager, according to Darren Bent.

Isco has a contract with Madrid until 2022 but the Spanish side are looking to sell him for a reported £18million,

The 28-year-old has struggled to command a regular place in Zinedine Zidane's starting XI and is weighing up the offers he's received.

A move to Everton would see him link up with former team-mate James Rodriguez and Ancelotti, who he played under at the Bernabeu.

Everton are attempting to build a squad capable of breaking into the top six and spent big in the summer.

Will Isco join Everton?

He told Football Insider: “Wow. When we talk about Isco, we now good he can be, bloody hell.

“That character there, he is a good player, Isco. If they can get him, wow, what a signing that would be from Ancelotti.

“This is the thing, when you have a manager like Ancelotti, who is a top, top manager, by the way, you’re going to be able to attract these players.

“It’s a little bit of a difficult conversation having it with a manager who does not have the same kind of reputation.

“Someone like Ancelotti who has won the Champions League as a player, and as a manager already, has won the Premier League, has won big trophies, when you talk to a manager like that you think ‘Ok, I’m going to take this conversation a little bit more seriously’.”

Meanwhile, Everton defender Mason Holgate says Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, their third in a row, is a wake-up call after an impressive start to the season.

“It was good to start the season like that but ultimately it wasn’t going to stay the same through the entire season,” Holgate told evertontv.

“It was important to not get carried away and think we were the best team ever.

“Equally, we will have parts [of the season] like this and it is really important to not get carried away the other way.

“We have to stay level-headed and know how good we are as a squad and go out and prove it.

“It is all right everybody knowing it but you have to get three points."
