Jude Bellingham has insisted his decision to join Borussia Dortmund had “nothing” to do with Manchester United.

The Red Devils were keen on the youngster while he was at Birmingham but he instead opted to join the Bundesliga giants.

United were reportedly bitterly disappointed to miss out on the midfielder having also missed out on Erling Haaland.

The Telegraph claim that Sir Alex Ferguson, Eric Cantona and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer staged a charm offensive in a bid to attract Bellingham.

Though the England U21 ace insists he wasn’t thinking about a move to Old Trafford when making his decision to join Dortmund.

“Well, you know, Man United have a great squad but my decision had nothing to do with Man United,” Bellingham told The Telegraph.

“I was so focused and so happy with the interest from Dortmund that this became my first choice. For me, it was Borussia Dortmund and that’s it.

“When you find somewhere that’s the best place to be, you kind of ignore everything else, you know what I mean?”

Bellingham recently became the youngest Englishman to ever start a Champions League match as he impresses for Dortmund.

Despite all the interest, Bellingham is determined to stay focused and to keep improving.

He added: “I’ve never believed in my own hype. I’ve never wanted to get involved in that.

“My manager will send me stuff and I’ll check it but I’ll never be too interested in what people say because, honestly, people’s opinions change like the weather.

“One minute you’re the best, the next you’re not ready or you’re this and that.

“I never look at the records beforehand. If it happens, it happens. As soon as I’ve got one it’s always about looking forward to the next one.

“I’d never search for a record I could beat or adjust my game [for it].”
