Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner had admitted to losing almost half a million pounds during a 90 minute session at his favourite casino in London when he was just 24-years-old in 2011

Nicklas Bendtner has admitted to a £400,000 casino splurge during his time at the at Arsenal.

The 32-year-old played for the Gunners under Arsene Wenger between 2005 and 2014, scoring 45 goals across 171 matches in a spell that was blighted by poor form.

The Danish forward left the club for Wolfsburg and has since played for Nottingham Forest, Rosenborg, Copenhagen and now Tarnby, and has now opened up on his struggles off of the pitch while playing in London.

Bendtner has revealed that he lost an extortionate about of money during a trip to his favourite London casino back in 2011, and that he ended up overdrawn in his account before taking out more cash.

"I’m way too drunk to sit at a table,” Bendtner said in an interview with the Guardian.

"That much I get. But roulette is a different matter. Red, black, red, black. How hard can it be?

"After 90 minutes I’ve lost £400,000. Money I don’t have. My bank account is overdrawn and I’m bankrupt if my luck doesn’t turn.

"I stagger into the loos and splash water on my face. Then I find a cashier and get another £50,000 of chips.”

Bendtner when on to talk about how he lost his way as a footballer and a person, and admitted that he won some money back after the aforementioned incident.

He said: "When you’re more or less broke it makes you think: ‘It’s got to stop.’ I was down £400,000 but ended up winning some of it back, actually.”

Before adding: “It was too risky – even for me. It was the wakeup call that helped break that spell. I’ve never been a guy who cares about money as a way of showing off. At first it was more about the fun and being with people you like.”

Bendtner allegedly branded Wenger a ‘w****r’ after a failed move to Crystal Palace back on 2013, but he has now put that feud to bed with a ringing endorsement of the Frenchman.

He said: “Arsene and I had a good relationship and I have tremendous respect for him.

"I don’t blame him for anything. He was always honest and he understands there are things I did that I’m not proud of.”
