Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended speculation around his future by signing a new three-year deal with Arsenal earlier this month, much to the delight of Gunners fans

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has angered some Arsenal fans just weeks after penning a new contract with the club. Earlier this month, the Gabon international ended the intense speculation surrounding his future by inking a new deal at the Emirates.

Aubameyang - who was a target for Spanish giants Barcelona - signed a new three-year deal with the north Londoners, much to the delight of Arsenal fans around the world.

That delight, however, has somewhat dissipated after fans caught wind of the 31-year-old's recent like on Twitter.

Aubameyang angered some of the Emirates faithful by liking a tweet that claimed he should've left north London to join one of Europe's powerhouses.

The tweet read: "He’s been so deserving of a team of the calibre of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, City, Liverpool, etc … not Arsenal for years.

Upon seeing the former Borussia Dortmund hitman's liking of the tweet, which has since been unliked, some Arsenal fans where quick to vent their fury.

"Me seeing that Auba liked that tweet almost made me vomit," one disgruntled Gunners supporter wrote. "Horrible thing, what was he thinking?"

Another said: "If you felt you deserved a better team then go ahead and put in a transfer request…. you’re not first arsenal captain to disappear."

The timing of Aubameyang's tweet came two days before Arsenal's clash with defending Premier League champions Liverpool, who they'll play at Anfield on Monday night.

It completely baffled one Arsenal fan, who said: "I don’t understand that Auba tweet at all, 2 days before a big game at Anfield as well. stupid thing to do."

Despite being coveted by Barcelona, who reportedly made an approach to acquire his services, Aubameyang insists he's 100 per cent happy at the Emirates.

"Two things persuaded me to stay," he told Sky Sports. 'The first thing was Mikel Arteta, because since he came in he brings a lot of positivity and a new philosophy for us.

"I think that was important because it matched my game and I feel that I can improve with him. I think this was the key factor and as well, the love that I receive from the fans and the whole club.

"Everyone is treating me very, very good, so I feel at home and that's why I'm staying.

"We had a chat during lockdown and we were supposed to talk about a game and he said "okay, forget about it, we're going to talk about the future" and he asked me what I wanted to do.

'I was like "I feel good since you came, I'm improving, and the philosophy is very, very nice so I just want to stay" and he was like, 'I'm sure if you stay you can leave a legacy, but it's all about you and what you want. Of course, you can leave and go for trophies in big clubs as well but I think you can create a legacy here in this great club.'

"This was the key message to me and after that conversation, I was like "okay, it's all clear for me and I just want to stay" and that's it."
