Liverpool and Real Madrid are in regular contract with Kylian Mbappe over a potential move next summer, according to reports. Real have long been linked with a move for Mbappe, dating back to before he joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2017. But the France international has also stated his admiration for Premier League champions Liverpool in recent months.

Mbappe is not expected to sign a new contract with PSG, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2022.

And Liverpool and Real are both keeping tabs with the 21-year-old World Cup winner.

Liverpool have just signed a forward, bringing in Diogo Jota from Wolves for an initial £41million.

But the Merseyside club may be looking for long-term replacements for their front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

The trio are all 28 and have themselves been linked with moves away from Anfield in recent months.

Salah and Mane in particular are attracting interest from Real and rivals Barcelona so the groundwork is being put in to sign Mbappe as their replacement, according to L'Equipe.

Speaking in May, Mbappe described Liverpool as a "machine" while they closed in on their first Premier League title.

“This season, Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League," Mbappe told the Mirror.

“They have made winning look easy but the truth is that it is never easy.

“Performances like they have been having don’t just happen.

“To be as ruthless as they have been would come from lots of hard work in training and from having a very good manager.”

Meanwhile, Real are still searching for the player to replace the goals lost by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Karim Benzema had arguably his best season at the Bernabeu last term but turns 33 in December.

And French football expert Julien Laurens claims Mbappe's dream is to move to the Spanish capital.

“At some point he will want to leave, for sure,” Laurens told ESPN FC.

“Let’s remember, his contract ends in 2022, so that’s quite soon. PSG are hoping he’ll extend that deal but he hasn’t yet.

“I think then if he goes to Real Madrid, it would be his ultimate dream.

“That’s where he’s always wanted to play, that’s where he went as an 11-year-old because they invited him to train with their youth team. He was that good that they wanted to sign him then.

“There’s no doubt at some point he’ll want to go to the Bernabeu and play there."

“I’m sure there will be other clubs in England and Italy, maybe Juventus for example, that would appeal to him.

“But, really, Real Madrid are the ones that he’s dreamed to play for one day, so they’d be the ideal destination for him.”
