Harry Maguire’s court hearing over charges of attempted bribery of an official and aggravated assault took place in Greece on Tuesday and the Manchester United star has been found guilty

Harry Maguire has been found guilty of all charges following a brawl on the Greek island of Mykonos.

Maguire pleaded not guilty to all charges related to an altercation with police last Thursday night.

But now he has been convicted of of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and bribery over the late-night brawl.

Maguire has been handed a prison sentence of 21 months and 10 days, which will be suspended because it is a first offence and charges were misdemeanours.

It is claimed the England international thought his sister Daisy had been stabbed by a stabbed by a “gangster-style” Albanian businessman which led to the confrontation.

During the court hearing today, Daisy is claimed by family friend Ashden Morley to have been injected with a “rape drug” amid the Mykonos bar brawl.

The court hearing, which Ashden Morley has provided evidence for today, heard 19-year-old Daisy was approached by two Albanians.

Maguire's fiancee Fern Hawkins is then said to have soon realised Daisy’s eyes were "rolling into the back of her head”.

Ashden Morley said: "We held Daisy. Daisy began to start fitting. All the girls were screaming.

“People were coming down asking what happened, there was a large commotion."

Other reports also suggested fans of rival clubs goaded Maguire with jibes about the 1958 Munich air disaster.

The defender, 27, was arrested with his brother Joe and pal Chris Sharman.

Bribery charges in Greece carry a maximum sentence of up to three years in jail and a fine.

It is not yet clear what verdict Joe Maguire or pal Sharman, who stood trial alongside him, have got.

There had been some concerns that today’s trial would be put back after an increase in coronavirus cases on the island of Syros, where the court is located.

But the case went ahead as planned with Maguire's father Alan among those in attendance.

Two workers at Ermoupolois City Hall, where the case was heard, tested positive, as did others on the island, but it went ahead.

Maguire sent representatives to face a charge of bribery of an official and another of aggravated assault.

A further charge of bribery was dropped when defence lawyers argued the police had misconstrued Maguire’s attempts to find out what fines were likely to be in store under Greek law.

The maximum prison sentence for bribery is three years in Greece but it was always thought that the 27-year-old was more likely to face a fine and a suspended prison sentence.

Reports of a £90,000 fine circulated before the hearing, which would amount to around half of his weekly salary at Old Trafford.

Maguire was handed a 21-month suspended prison sentence, hence being allowed to go home over the weekend, with a huge fine expected to follow.

They are not felonies, they are misdemeanours, which means he won’t serve time behind bars. Additionally, it is a first offence.

Gareth Southgate decided to name Maguire today in his squad for UEFA Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark next month.

Southgate has been forced to think deeply about whether to call up the United star for the upcoming games in light of the recent incident.

The squad announcement came this afternoon, giving the England boss a little time to discuss the situation with Maguire.

The Three Lions boss is now set to talk things through with Maguire and the FA again, and he won't make any knee-jerk decision.

Southgate is said to be very upset by the verdict and the outcome regarding his top centre-half.

Maguire himself was cleared to leave Greece after appearing before a public prosecutor on Saturday, where he was believed to return home to Sheffield.

The player released a statement on Tuesday evening confirming an appeal will be lodged, while he said: “Following the hearing today, I have instructed my legal team with immediate effect to inform the courts we will be appealing.

“I remain strong and confident regarding our innocence in this matter - if anything myself, family and friends are the victims.”
