Ronaldinho will be released from from prison, having spent five months in Paraguayan custody

The Brazilian football legend and his brother Roberto de Assis has been under house arrest in the country after a entering the South American country with a fake passport.

They also spent a month in a prison before being given more luxurious accommodation during their stay.

But the public prosecutor started the process earlier this month of closing the investigation after agreeing the plea bargain and scheduling the final hearing.

And Paraguayan reporter Guille Domaniczky has now reported that Ronaldinho will have freedom – but it comes with conditions.

A judge granted a conditional stay to the 40-year-old, where he will have to live in Brazil and pay $90,000 (£69,000) as compensation for social damage.

While his brother, who will have a criminal record in the country, will have to pay $110,000 (£84,333) as Ronaldinho’s is wiped clean.

Roberto will not be permitted to leave Brazil for two years and the pair will need to report to a judge in Brazil every two months for the next two years.

"It was recognized by the public prosecutor's office that there is no crime of a financial or related nature in relation to Ronaldo and Roberto," their lawyer Sergio Queiroz said last Friday.

"After five long months, they have demonstrated exactly what we defended since the beginning: the use of altered public documents without the knowledge of the defendants."

Speaking back in June, Ronaldinho offered an update on his time in house arrest at a hotel.

"Here at the Palmaroga Hotel we have an excellent treatment," he told Mundo Deportivo. "We have everything well ordered, we are very calm and they do anything to pass it in the most pleasant way possible.

"It has been sixty long days. People in their homes must imagine what it must be like not being able to do what you are used to. I think that is something that will remain forever in all of us after living this complicated experience.

"I hope that soon everything will return to normal and we can return to our homes. Hopefully everything will be as before."
