Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future at the club remains unclear, but this weekend's FA Cup final showdown with Chelsea could play a huge part in deciding it

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal future remains in the balance ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final showdown with Chelsea - which could decide whether he stays or goes this summer.

The 31-year-old has entered the final year of his Gunners contract and little progress has reportedly been made over an extension.

It is believed the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan are therefore circling in the summer transfer window, which represents the north London club’s last chance to cash in on him.

And according to The Mirror, Arsenal’s fate in the FA Cup final could very well decide Aubameyang’s future at the Emirates.

Having finished eighth in the Premier League this season, Mikel Arteta’s side have failed in their first attempt to gain Europa League qualification, meaning they must now claim victory at Wembley this Saturday to do so.

Securing European football for next year is likely to dictate how much money Arteta has to spend on transfers and potential contract extensions this summer.

It would also boost their chances of convincing Aubameyang, who wants to be playing in Europe while in the twilight of his career, to stay put at the club.

Arsenal are keen to tie the Gabon international down to a new £250,000-a-week deal and remain hopeful he will commit his future to Arteta’s encouraging project.

Yet with finances already depleted following the coronavirus pandemic, and the luxury of Champions League football out of their reach for a fourth successive season, qualifying for the Europa League is crucial if they want to put that bumper new contract on the table for him.

They already have Mesut Ozil on a staggering £350,000-a-week deal, which also runs until next summer, and reports suggest that hefty wage is likely to deter potential suitors from going after him again this summer.

Arteta will have to sell before he can buy, but winning the FA Cup and achieving Europa League qualification could hand Arsenal an extra £30million as well as the attraction of European football.

It could prove difficult to find Aubameyang a new club if they miss out, with several sides unlikely to be able to afford him, yet the Gunners will remain determined to give themselves leverage in contract negotiations with their star striker by claiming silverware on Saturday.
