CHELSEA need to sign at least four players PLUS Kai Havertz to get anywhere near champions Liverpool.

The Blues have already signed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig at a cost of £85million.

These are two high profile marquee signings who will make a massive difference to Frank Lampard’s attack.

There are even strong rumours that Werner’s German international team-mate, Kai Havertz, will be joining them.

However, even with these three world class talents joining Lampard’s squad, he will still not be anywhere near the level of Premier League winners Liverpool.

Lampard watched an absolutely horrific performance from his players on Saturday evening, as they lost 3-0 to Sheffield United, in what can only be described as an abysmal display from Chelsea.

Collectively every single player in a Chelsea shirt was VERY poor.

Some of them might even have convinced Lampard to sell them in the summer.

Lampard needs to sign a new centre-back, a new goalkeeper, a new left-back, and a new winger if he is even going to come close to competing with the top sides next season.

I believe that Lampard knows this – hence the rumours of him potentially looking for reinforcements in those areas as well.

The defence is shocking and leaking goals, and the midfielders struggle to penetrate teams that use deep-lying blocks.

Chelsea had the majority of possession against Sheffield United, but once again they failed to do anything with it – the majority of the time they just played it around the back four aimlessly.

Once United backed off after scoring the first couple of goals, it was exactly the same thing, except Chelsea had all the possession further up the field and still did absolutely nothing with it.

Lampard badly needs reinforcements, and luckily for him it looks like he might get them.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with signing Declan Rice and Ben Chilwell, but they will need more.

Rice will be one player who could come in and really make a difference though, with his leadership quality and intelligence on the ball.

He can bring help to the defensive side of the squad, as well as the attacking side.

But Chelsea need collective reinforcements and the performance at Bramall Lane emphasised that once again.

The Blades schooled Chelsea and totally outmanoeuvred them tactically.

They turned up with a plan and let Chelsea have possession, fully knowing they could target them with a high press and crosses – Chelsea’s two major weaknesses.
