Dagenham and Redbridge player Gabriel Zakuani has revealed that he found a bullet lodged in the window of a salon that he owns in Surrey.

It is not clear when or why the bullet was fired at the shop window but DR Congo international Zakuani appeared understandably concerned at the events.

"Been sent these photos of my one of my salons in Surrey, some sort of air rifle bullet got stuck, with a note," he tweeted.

"Can anyone help explain what it means so I don’t jump to conclusions. 2020 is pulling no punches Whatsoever. Thank God for bullet proof windows."

A sticker attached to the same window could be connected to the incident, although there is no evidence to suggest that it is.

It begins with a quote from US army General George S Patton which reads: "We defeated the wrong enemy."

The sticker continues: "He meant the Communists - Those calling themselves the Cultural Marxists and the Liberals of today.

"Racism + Diversity + Inclusivity are terms from Communist ideology to suppress indigenous people."

Zakuani, who had surgery on an injured ankle in March, was inundated with messages of support in the aftermath of the traumatic discovery.

"This is disgusting. I'm so sorry to see this Gabby," replied a shocked Twitter user.

"So sorry Gabs. Would pass over to police but sickening that some feel empowered in current climate to post such messages and take such actions," said another.

A third agreed, adding: "Yeah that is hate speech. This needs to be reported to the police but I'm sure you have.

"Stay safe, and remember that they are the vast minority (though, a highly unpleasant group). I'm sorry this happened to you and your staff."
