Roy Hodgson claims Jurgen Klopp is all wrong about building a dynasty at Liverpool

Former Liverpool boss Hodgson is returning to Anfield with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night - and he says Klopp is all wrong in one of his big opinions
Roy Hodgson claims Jurgen Klopp is WRONG to say dynasties are harder to build now than when Manchester United ruled the roost.
Asked about the United era of Sir Alex Ferguson, Klopp once famously said: “I don't think it is possible to get to their level of dominance ever again.”
But as he returns to Anfield tonight to take on champions-elect Liverpool, Hodgson reckons that just belittles the achievements of some of the greatest sides ever seen in this country.
The Crystal Palace boss said: “I don’t think that it’s harder than it was for Sir Alex.
"It was a tough league in those days. I don’t believe it’s tougher now. It’s never been a one-horse race.
"I’d be very surprised if any manager working at a top club would say anything other than dominating and getting a dynasty is going to be very hard.
"But that would be taking away a lot from those teams. It’s almost suggesting it was easier then. I don’t think it was.
"There were exceptional Liverpool teams. Exceptional United teams.”
Crystal Palace were the last side to win a league game at Anfield, way back in 2017, and will be a tough nut to crack having kept ten clean sheets this season.

While Liverpool splashed £75m on Virgil Van Dijk to shore up their defence, Hodgson had to rely on free transfer signing Gary Cahill - but insists he’s had a similar impact.
Hodgson said: “Virgil van Dijk was brought in to do a specific job. The price was a very high price. But not a bad price to pay now considering.
"That’s just good business. But we’re equally pleased, at a different level if you like, with what Cahill has done.”

Hodgson also reckons more credit should be given for Liverpool’s success this season to the man who sacked him as Reds boss in 2011.
He said: “The owner, John Henry, has made some very good decisions. He has been very good for the club.
"When Liverpool lift the title that will be a remarkable accolade for Jurgen Klopp. It will also be an accolade for the owners, who have backed him so well. He’s had the backing he needed and deserved.”
