President says ‘many clubs’ could be interested in reported Liverpool and Newcastle target

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told Telefoot that a lot of clubs are interested in reported Liverpool and Newcastle United target Houssem Aouar.

Aulas has said that he knows that “many clubs” want the 21-year-old, who is one of the best young midfielders in the world.

RMC Sport reported this month that Liverpool are ‘very interested’ in the France Under-21 international, while Foot-Sur7 reported in May that Newcastle want the youngster.

The Sun reported back in April that Arsenal and Manchester City are keeping tabs on the youngster.

Aulas has said that although he wants to keep Aouar beyond the summer, the player himself will have to decide what he wants to do.

Aulas told Telefoot, as transcribed by Goal.com: “For the moment, we’ve not had any proposals or even a request for any information on him, but I know that many clubs could be interested in him.

“In any case, our preference is to keep him and we will do everything to achieve that.

“The second option is that it’s up to him where he wants to play. When players have left in the past, we’ve always favoured the place and the club where they wanted to go.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Aouar made 23 starts and two substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Lyon this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists in the process.

The midfielder also scored one goal and provided three assists in five Champions League games for the French club this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Good signing for Liverpool or Newcastle United?

Aouar is a very good and promising young midfielder who will get better in the coming years, and he would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool or Newcastle, both for now and in the long run.
