What Tammy Abraham thinks of Timo Werner deal

Chelsea star Tammy Abraham is keeping an open mind about the arrival of Timo Werner. The RB Leipzig striker is set to join the Blues in the summer transfer window. Chelsea agreed a deal with the Bundesliga side last week.

The Blues beat Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona to the Germany international, 24.

Questions have started to arise over Abraham's future under Frank Lampard with Werner set to join.

The England international has always played as a No. 9, meaning Werner would likely have to play on the wing if Lampard starts Abraham.

Despite claims his future could be in doubt, the Athletic say Abraham is keeping an open mind about Werner joining.

Timo Werner dreamed of Man Utd move

Chelsea-bound Timo Werner once revealed his dream of playing for Manchester United.

"As a small boy, you always dream of the huge clubs," he previously told Sky Sports. "In earlier days, it was Manchester United.

"Under Sir Alex Ferguson, they always had great players, they always won. As a small boy, you always prefer the teams which are winning.

"That's something you can easily forget, especially when everything is going well. You see how you develop, that you play in the German national team - the number one, the world champion.

"Then you start to dream of perhaps playing somewhere else sometime."

Man Utd's £90m bid

Manchester United were seemingly ready to scrap plans to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window in favour of a move for Ansu Fati but Barcelona reportedly rejected a £90million bid.

The suggestion around United is that Sancho has been their No 1 target heading into the summer transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund have made it clear they're not willing to budge from their £100million valuation though, which has led to United to looking at potential alternatives.

Timo Werner had been earmarked as a possible target, but the German striker now looks increasingly likely to join Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer though is desperate to add more flair to his frontline to team up with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

And Spanish publication Sport claim the Red Devils had turned their attention on a possible move for Fati.

It is claimed Fati has grown frustrated at a perceived lack of opportunities in the first team.

Danny Murphy expects Paul Pogba to leave Manchester United because he won’t be able to play regularly with Bruno Fernandes.

"The problem you've got, when you've got two attack-minded players who both want to go forward and don't really want to go back that way, in the big games against Liverpool, against Barca in the Champions League, whatever it may be, they're going to get found out defensively. So it's a delicate balance,” murphy said on talkSPORT.

"I think it would be exciting to see if it did work and to give it a chance.

"My gut feeling is that Pogba will go, yeah, my gut feeling is he'll go.

"It's going to be very difficult to keep him happy if he's not going to play every single game and the fans have already turned I think.

"I think he expects to play, he's a World Cup-winner, he's got all the talent in the world, I know that's not enough but I'm not sure he will want to fight his way back in. He'll expect to play.

"The one thing that's sure with United, after what I've seen of Fernandes, he's going to play, he is going to start."

Hojbjerg could leave Southampton

Southampton chief Martin Semmens admits he’s powerless to stopping Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leaving the club as Tottenham continue to monitor his situation.

Saints chief executive Semmens said: “He’s fully committed to getting through this season and winning those nine games. When it comes to the transfer window, it’s a strange time.

"Let’s be clear about Pierre, he’s been absolutely upfront with us and everybody publicly that he sees himself at the very highest level of football.

"He wants to win the league, he wants to win the Champions League either with us or somebody else and at some point he’s going to either have to drive us to that level or move somewhere else to do it.

"If there’s a club out there that can win the Champions League and they think Pierre can improve their team, if they can pay for him then, in the end, we have to let him go.”

Do Man Utd need Sancho?

Jadon Sancho is not what Manchester United need on the pitch right now - but they want him so they can sign a new marquee player, according to Jeff Stelling.

Sancho is United’s top target for the summer but they may have to pay as much as £120m to Borussia Dortmund for his services.

"Is he what they need at the minute? I'm not convinced he is," Stelling, speaking on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK, told Express Sport.

"What United always need is those flagship signings to show that they are still competing with the big boys and that's what it would do.

"Of course he would start and bring something to them, there is no doubt about that.

"But it is going to be interesting to see when this is all over what effect that has on transfers and transfer fees and salaries.

"The one thing about United is despite their humongous debt they always pay out big bucks for the big players and Sancho would fit the bill there.

"I am sure Solskjaer would love him and want him and I am sure the United fans would love him as well."

City in for Chilwell

Manchester City are among a host of clubs looking to compete with Chelsea over the signing of Ben Chilwell.

The Leicester ace is a wanted man this summer with Chelsea making their priority signing now they’ve completed deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

But the Telegraph report that City are also keen after cooling their interest in him last summer.

City wanted Chilwell with uncertainty over Benjamin Mendy’s fitness and form, but wanted to sign a centre-midfielder and a centre-back as a bigger priority.

They signed Rodri from Atletico but failed in their bid to sign a replacement for Vincent Kompany.

However left-back is back on the agenda this season.

Werner announcement

Timo Werner’s move to Chelsea could be announced as early as this week.

The German striker is set to join Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge this summer after Chelsea agreed to trigger his £53m release clause.

Werner had been linked with Liverpool and was expected to move to Anfield.

However Liverpool decided against making a move in the wake of the coronavirus, allowing Chelsea to swoop in.

And the deal could be confirmed as early as this week with Werner Chelsea’s second signing of the summer after Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.

Next they want a left-back with Ben Chilwell their top target, but they alternatives that may be cheaper.

Jack Grealish to Manchester United

Jack Grealish’s agent Jonathan Barnett has backed him to ‘become a really big star’ amid links to Manchester United.

United want Grealish this summer and could make him their priority signing over Jadon Sancho because of Borussia Dortmund’s asking price.

Dortmund want over £100m for Sancho while Grealish could be available for around half of that if Aston Villa are relegated.

And Barnett has backed the Villa ace to be a star in the future.

"I think Jack has a wonderful future,” he told Sport Witness.

"I think he’s the most fantastic player.

"He has a great future. It’s all ahead of him. He’s got everything to become a really big star.”

Tottenham make Zaniolo decision

Tottenham have ended their interest in Roma ace Nicolo Zaniolo due to his asking price.

Roma are said to want £62m for the midfielder.

However with the financial impact of the coronavirus still not clear Tottenham have shelved their interest.

Jose Mourinho is expected to have to make do with a lower transfer budget and is looking at free agents as he looks to improve his squad.
