David Silva expected to agree short-term contract extension with Man City – Telegraph
A report in the English media on Monday has provided some insight into David Silva's contract situation at Manchester City, with the Spaniard having just over a month left on his current deal.

Silva's time at Man City

David Silva has been plying his trade in the English top-flight for almost a decade.

The tricky Spaniard made the move to Manchester in the summer of 2010, when he left Spanish outfit Valencia.

The Citizens are believed to have paid around £25m for Silva's services.

In total, the Spanish international has since notched 424 appearances across all competitions for Man City, in which he has netted 74 and assisted 137.

The now 34-year-old should, and probably will go down as one of the Sky Blues' all-time greatest players, with his crucial role in City's success over recent years evident for all to see.

However, Silva's time at the Etihad is, unfortunately, coming to an end.

Silva to sign contract extension

The decorated Spaniard confirmed last summer that he would be departing Manchester at the end of the current season when his contract is up.

As is the norm with the majority of contracts, Silva's current deal is set to expire on the 30th of June.

This, in regular seasons, would have been perfectly fine, as club football is generally finished by early June at the latest.

However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has of course caused some issues for soon-to-be out of contract Premier League players.

With a restart date of mid-June looking like the best possible scenario at the moment, many stars, including Silva, would be out of contract before the season is played to completion.

Silva not even being able to play out his final season at City would be a terrible way to finish such a successful spell.

But, luckily for fans of the Citizens, as mentioned above, the World Cup winner looks set to extend his current deal.

According to the Telegraph, Silva is expected to agree a short-term contract extension with the Sky Blues.

City are said to be confident that the 34-year-old will extend his stay by a couple of months.

The two parties, though, have yet to actually enter formal discussions over an emergency extension, as City are believed to be waiting for the 'Project Restart' plan to be made official before doing so.
