Why Real Madrid won't be signing Pogba

Recently we at MARCA told you why Real Madrid aren't plotting a move to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

There was talk of the Juventus forward returning to Los Blancos following his appearance at the Bernabeu for the Clasico in March, but we dismissed all that.

Now it's Paul Pogba's turn.

The midfielder has been linked with Real Madrid since the summer of 2016, when he decided that he would leave Juventus.

Zinedine Zidane would've loved to have brought his compatriot to Valdebebas, but money talked.

Manchester United eventually paid 114 million euros in transfer fees for the Frenchman and still pay him 19 million euros in wages per year.

The problem that Pogba quickly discovered that Old Trafford wasn't the place he was looking for and that he still lacked something to fulfil his dreams.

Nevertheless, his loyalty drove him to keep playing for United, trying to help them challenge for trophies.

However, a rift grew between Pogba and Jose Mourinho, leading to speculation of an exit for the midfielder.

Even when Mourinho was sacked in December 2018, Pogba's mind was made up.

The 27-year-old's wishes were evident last summer as he fuelled talk of a departure, with Zidane and Real Madrid known admirers.

Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, held talks with Real Madrid, who were eventually unable to afford a move for his client.

As the months went on, Los Blancos' interest in Pogba cooled and other targets began to rise towards the top of their wish list, namely another of Raiola's clients, Erling Haaland.

Real Madrid know that Pogba hasn't changed his mind and that the Frenchman is willing to talk about his wages if they are a problem, but the transfer has been ruled out.

Los Blancos are looking to sell before they buy and are now looking at other midfield options in the transfer market, such as Eduardo Camavinga and N'Golo Kante.

Signing Pogba would go against the club's plans moving forward as they try to cut back amidst the coronavirus crisis.
