The wife of former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the stabbing of a young male.

Julie Phillips, 49, is reported to have broken lockdown rules to visit a group of lads in a two-bed terraced house late on Saturday.

A man, named locally as 20-year-old Aigars Lipentis, was found by paramedics in a criticial condition at the property in Lichfield, Staffordshire, after trouble broke out, according to The Sun.

The mum-of-four was held for two nights and quizzed alongside two 20-year-old men before being released without charge.

It is claimed the men know Kevin and Julie's eldest daughter.

Julie confirmed to MailOnline she was held for two nights as part of the investigation but is not facing any charges as she stated she was simply a witness to the offence.

She said: "Yes, I was arrested but I have been released. I was a witness."

She refused to say why she was at Reynolds Close, a quiet residential street in Lichfield about five miles from their home, or comment on claims a black Range Rover seized belonged to her.

Kevin Phillips has also spoken about the incident at his home in Rugeley, Staffordshire.

The former Sunderland, Southampton and Aston Villa striker, who won eight England caps, stated she was taking beers to the house.

“Julie was a witness to the incident and she was released without charge.

“As you can imagine, she was very traumatised.

“But as regards to any other suggestions, they are complete nonsense.”

Julie's Range Rover was towed from the scene to be checked by police, whilst she allegedly told officers she had been visiting her mother before stopping at the house.

A neighbour branded the situation "terrifying" after hearing a man screaming.

A man at the party is alleged to have fled and crashed into a Kwik Fit garage over a mile away from the scene.
