Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been tipped to sign a Premier League star this summer.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided he has no interest in paying £70million for West Ham star Declan Rice this summer, reports say. The England international has been backed to move to Old Trafford amid uncertainty over his Hammers future. But United, it seems, have no interest in signing him.

United were interested in Rice 12 months ago after he’d impressed for West Ham under Manuel Pellegrini.

Ultimately, though, the Red Devils chose to prioritise transfer deals for the likes of Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire instead.

With United likely to lose Paul Pogba this summer, talk of them renewing their interest in Rice has started to gather pace in recent weeks.

Yet Bleacher Report say the Red Devils ‘wouldn’t be willing to go anywhere near’ the midfielder’s huge £70million price tag.

Solskjaer, it seems, has cooled his interest in the West Ham star altogether.

And that may give Chelsea a glimmer of hope, with Blues boss Frank Lampard a big admirer of Rice ahead of the summer transfer window.

United have other fish to fry when it comes to signing players at the end of the campaign.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is the club’s No 1 transfer target, with the England international shining in Germany over the past three years.

Jack Grealish is also on their radar, with the 24-year-old enjoying an impressive Premier League campaign with Aston Villa.

Jude Bellingham has admirers at United - though the Birmingham City teenager is also attracting interest from Dortmund.

And, up top, United have both RB Leipzig and Lyon strikers Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele under consideration.

Meanwhile, former West Ham striker Carlton Cole recently had his say on Rice’s future.

And he urged the 20-year-old to stay put.

"I would urge to Declan to think twice about looking beyond West Ham at this stage in his career," Cole said.

"He would should stay where he is for a few years because he is one of the main men in the team and that won't be the case if he joins one of the big clubs before he is ready for that.

"Declan is only 20 (sic 21) and the danger of making a move now is that he could become just a number at one of the top clubs and will not realise his potential.

“He should learn his trade properly and West Ham is the perfect stage for him to do that.

"The top clubs will come calling if he is still playing as well as he has done this season a few years down the line, but this is not the moment for him to go to Manchester United or somewhere like that.

"If you roll the clock forward a few years and he has loads of England caps under his belt after giving plenty of good service to West Ham, then I'm sure they won't stand in his way if a big club comes in for him.

“But it would be premature for him to make that move now.

"He's had one good season and let's wait and see where he is in a few years time. Declan is a sensible lad and knows that leaving West Ham now would be a risk for him."

Cole also praised Rice for his temperament, having been turned down by Chelsea earlier in his career.

"Declan Rice is a top player and what I like about him is his temperament," added Cole.

"He has had to fight for what he has got in his career so far and that will keep him humble.

"Some players get their break in the Premier League at a young age, but Declan was rejected by Chelsea for a professional contract with and had to get himself back up from that setback to go again."
