Roberto Martinez: Hazard is recovering well, he'll be back soon

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has provided a positive update on Eden Hazard's progression from ankle surgery.

The Real Madrid forward underwent surgery in Dallas on March 5, but Martinez is concerned about the impact the coronavirus pandemic may have on Hazard's recovery process.

"I know he's recovering well," Martinez told the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

"He's not far from walking again and there haven't been any complications.

"Everything went well during the operation, the fear is that in the next four to five weeks there will be complications, and there haven't been any [so far]."

Since making the move to Real Madrid last summer, Hazard has had rotten luck in terms of injuries, although Martinez saw a slight positive in the 29-year-old's latest injury coming when it did.

"Of course, LaLiga has stopped momentarily, so Eden isn't missing any games," Martinez stated.

That's only good for him. We know he'll come back stronger.

"We were also lucky, of course, that his surgery was performed just before the [coronavirus] outbreak.

"Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to travel or be treated outside of Madrid.

"Eden is a player who is recovering; he is focused on his recovery and I have a positive feeling that Eden will be back soon."

This is an unprecedented time for everyone across the world, yet the Belgium boss made sure to point out that it is not just those involved in football who are being affected right now.

"Mentally, it is difficult, not only for one person but for everyone," Martinez noted.

"You can feel that you are missing something. It affects everyone all over the world.

"I think everyone is reacting strongly, trying to make sure everyone is safe, healthy... I'm sure he's thinking in the back of his head about the day he'll be able to get back on the football pitch.

"Those doctors who are putting their lives at risk are the ones who need us to focus on them."
