REAL MADRID have announced pay cuts of up to 20 per cent amid the coronavirus crisis.
LaLiga was brought to a standstill in March after Spain was hit badly by the illness.
And Real players will now take pay cuts between 10 and 20 per cent to deal with loss of income.
That is a lot lower than rivals Barcelona, whose players have agreed to 70 per cent cuts despite plans to furlough non-playing staff.
An official Real Madrid statement confirmed cuts for both the football and basketball teams, reading: “The players and coaches of Real Madrid’s football and basketball first teams, led by their captains, and together with the principal club directors have agreed to voluntarily lower their wages for this year between 10 and 20 per cent, due to the circumstances that may affect the close of the current 2019-20 sporting season.
“This decision, adopted by players, coaches and employees, will avoid traumatic measures that would affect other workers.
“[It will also contribute] towards the economic goals of the institution in the face of the loss of income that it will suffer these coming months, as a consequence of the suspension of activities and the paralysis of most commercial activities.
“Real Madrid is proud of all those who are part of this big family and its unbreakable culture of values, which becomes especially valuable in hard times like these.”
Meanwhile, Leeds United have turned the tables by giving their players pay RISES.
The decision has been made as a reward for undergoing cuts while the Championship remains halted.
Boss Marcelo Bielsa and his stars have taken cuts of up to 50 per cent at Elland Road.
