Barcelona's accounts don't add up with Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho's departure has become a headache for Barcelona who can't find a club willing to spend at least 80 million euros on the Brazilian.

Last summer, the Blaugrana reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for a loan move and the deal included a 120m euro purchase option.

However, Coutinho hasn't impressed in Germany and the Bundesliga side are not willing to trigger the aforementioned clause.

Barcelona still owe 75m euros in amortisation fees and they are aware that they may not be able to make a profit from his possible sale.

No team was willing to offer 80m euros in exchange of Coutinho's services before the Coronavirus outbreak and getting such a sum after the crisis is over seems practically impossible.

The most feasible scenario for the moment is for Barcelona to loan the Brazilian out for another season, as he is currently earning around 13m euros per year.

In the summer of 2021, amortisation fees will have dropped to around 50m euros and a profit could be made from a potential sale.

The Premier League is a possible future destination for Coutinho, who spent his most productive seasons in England with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, several clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, have placed them on their radar since last season.
