The UEFA Nations League, due to take place next summer, has been postponed after the re-arrangement of Euro 2020.

The Euros were pushed back by 12 months after the coronavirus outbreak. The virus has affected millions with the football calendar also descending into chaos.

UEFA held a video conference call on Tuesday when they decided on taking the precautionary measures.

The biggest football leagues in Europe have currently come to a halt, with the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga suspending all fixtures.

It is likely that the summer period will now be used to complete the remaining domestic fixtures, as and when those leagues get back up and running.

The biennial tournament took place for the first time in 2019, when Portugal were crowned the winners. England finished in third.

Countries compete in leagues organised alphabetically. Group games were due to take place in September, October and November this year - replacing friendlies.

Promotion and relegation are a key feature of the league format with the four group winners of League A sue to play in the finals of June 2021.

But following the postponement of Euro 2020 the Nations League has been moved.

Part of a UEFA statement read: "UEFA EURO 2020, which was set to take place from 12 June to 12 July 2020, will be postponed to 11 June to 11 July 2021.

"This will help to ensure that the UEFA EURO 2020 can be a great celebration of football for all the supporters across the continent.

"The UEFA Nations League Finals, the final tournament of the UEFA U21 EURO and the UEFA Women's EURO all scheduled between June and July 2021 will be re-scheduled accordingly."
