Cristiano Ronaldo is refusing to travel back to Italy as the country tackles the coronavirus crisis.

Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a message of solidarity with those ffected by the coronavirus as the Portuguese star self-isolates at his mansion in Madeira. There were fears that the forward may have contracted the disease after team-mate Daniele Rugani tested positive.

The Italian football federation has suspended Serie A until at least April 3 following a government decree.

There is doubt that this season will be completed, with Italy the worst-hit country in Europe as the crisis escalates.

Juventus beat Inter Milan 2-0 behind closed doors on Sunday, but the Turin-based club are now on lockdown after their defender Rugani was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.

Paulo Dybala has since dismissed reports that he has contracted the virus.

Now Ronaldo has issued a thorough statement on the issue, advising supporters to follow the advice of the World Health Organisation.

“The world is going through a very difficult moment which demands the utmost care and attention form all of us,” he tweeted.

“I speak to you today not as a football player, but as a son, father, a human being concerned with the latest developments that is affecting the whole world.

“It is important we all follow the advice of WHO (World Health Organisation) and the governing bodies on how we handle this current situation.

“Protecting human life must come above any other interests.

“I would like to send my thoughts to everyone who has lost someone close to them, my solidarity to those who are fighting the virus, like my teammate Daniele Rugani, and my continues support to the amazing health professional putting their own lives at risk to help save others. Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Juventus are hoping they will be able to complete their season, as they currently sit top of the Serie A table ahead of Lazio and Inter.
