Liam Moore at the ready for Royals

Reading captain Liam Moore could be back in contention for a place in the starting XI against Stoke.

Defender Moore returned following illness to make a late substitute appearance in the 3-1 Sky Bet Championship win at Birmingham last weekend.

Royals boss Mark Bowen confirmed full-back Chris Gunter and forward Sam Baldock are both back in training as they close in on a first-team return.

Striker Lucas Joao has also stepped up his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury sustained on New Year’s Day. Defender Tom McIntyre and Lucas Boye both continue their recovery from head and hernia issues respectively.

Stoke will check on forward Sam Vokes ahead of the trip to Berkshire.

The Welshman has been managing a slight calf strain this week, so faces a late fitness test.

Midfielder Jordan Cousins has recovered from the cut foot which saw him miss the 5-1 win over Hull, but Joe Allen is facing a lengthy spell out following Achilles tendon surgery.

Winger James McClean has stepped up his recovery from a knee problem, along with captain Ryan Shawcross, who is managing his return from a broken leg.
