'Put your hands away you f*cking idiots!' - Klopp fumes at Liverpool fans amid coronavirus concerns

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp scolded fans ahead of the Reds' Champions League last-16 clash with Atletico Madrid after a set of supporters reached out for high-fives despite ongoing coronavirus concerns.

Wednesday's match at Anfield was played in the midst of a global outbreak with a number of football matches and sporting events impacted.

The decision was made earlier this week that Paris Saint-Germain's clash with Borussia Dortmund, the other match on Wednesday's schedule, would be played behind closed doors.

Arsenal's visit to Manchester City, meanwhile, was postponed due to coronavirus fear s following the Gunners' meeting with Olympiacos, which saw club staff come into contact with the Greek side's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, who has been diagnosed with the illness.

And Klopp was not thrilled with supporters near the Anfield tunnel attempting to reach out for high-fives ahead of the match.

"Put your hands away you f*cking idiots," Klopp said as he walked by moments before kick-off.

Klopp has been quite vocal about the outbreak in recent weeks , although the Liverpool boss says questions about coronavirus should be saved for medical professionals, not football managers.

The manager has stated that "some things are more important than football" and that he and Liverpool will respect whatever decisions are made by government officials when it comes to dealing with the spread of the illness.

A number of Champions League matches have been impacted by the coronavirus, with Atalanta's win over Valencia played behind closed doors on Tuesday.

Supporters have also been banned from other Champions League matches including Barcelona vs Napoli and Bayern Munich vs Chelsea, while LASK will be forced to close their gates against Manchester United on Thursday in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, in other Europa League matches, Roma's clash with Sevilla and Inter's meeting with Getafe have been postponed .
