Robinson in the dark about Blackpool “approach”

Oxford boss Karl Robinson says he does not know if speculation linking him with the vacant manager’s job at League One rivals Blackpool is true.

It has been reported that the north-west team have made an official approach to speak to Robinson, whose team improved their play-off prospects on Tuesday with a 3-0 home defeat of Accrington.

After the game Robinson said: “It does seem as though there has been an official approach, from what everyone is saying, but I haven’t got a clue – no one at the football club has told me anything.

“I have faith in the board that they will tell me if anything like this happens.

“It’s nice that people are talking about it but I think I should have been told if we did get a phone call.

“But there has been a game – maybe they wanted to get that out the way first. So I don’t even know if the speculation is true.”

He added: “It’s not about whether I want to go to Blackpool – it’s more about how successful we want to be here.

“I will have to speak to the board tonight or tomorrow. I don’t know what to say because I don’t know where we’re at.”

Matty Taylor (2) and James Henry got the goals which saw off Accrington and gave Oxford a third successive clean sheet win.

Taylor scored twice to take his tally for the season to 15, with Henry getting the ball rolling by tucking away his 13th of the campaign early on.

Robinson added: “I think that’s six goals in five games now for Matty, which is very pleasing.

“Those two play together so well. It was the one partnership I didn’t want to break apart.

“It’s been a good week, especially considering how disjointed we’ve been.

“With all the players we’ve had out injured it’s been difficult – George Thorne was making his first league start for three years, for instance – that was a gamble.

“We scored the first goal against the run of play. They dominated the first half, to be honest, and we dominated the second.

“We were unbelievable against Wimbledon last week, solid against Ipswich and we scrapped for the win today.

“But we do seem to have something about us in front of goal.”

Accrington manager John Coleman said: “It was definitely not a 3-0 tonight.

“I thought we were better than Oxford in every department apart from the one that matters – putting the ball in the net.

“We proceeded to miss chance after chance and that’s been a problem for us.

“In the second half Oxford were playing more like the away side and playing on the break. But they’re a good team, and Taylor’s a good finisher.”

Accrington, who had won at the Kassam Stadium on their last two visits, had opportunities in the first half but were denied by a fine double save from  goalkeeper Simon Eastwood.
