A group of Premier League stars have been filmed appearing to inhale from balloons while on holiday during their winter break.

While it is not known what was in the balloons, they are sometimes used for inhaling "hippy crack", or nitrous oxide.

Brighton & Hove Albion players Shane Duffy, Pascal Gross, and Leandro Trossard, and Alireza Jahanbakhsh can be seen in the clip apparently inhaling a substance from balloons, in a clip shared by a Brighton fan on Twitter.

The footage seen by Daily Star Online and publicly posted on Twitter is bound to raise questions for the club.

In the short clip, which has since been deleted, several Brighton players are seen sat around a table outside a bar or nightclub.

On top of the table are a number of drinks as well as a shisha pipe.

Jahanbakhsh, in a black t-shirt and sitting next to a woman with dark hair, can be seen inhaling from a red balloon

Leandro Trossard, in a black t-shirt, is seen inhaling from a purple balloon.

Irish star Shane Duffy appears to be inhaling from a blue balloon next to Trossard.

The camera then pans across to the other side of the table where Pascal Gross, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, inhales from an orange balloon.

One fan joked underneath the video: "Not really the team bonding I had in mind."

A spokesman for Brighton & Hove Albion told Daily Star Online: The club is aware of the video circulating on social media. This matter is being dealt with internally.

The Premier League club are currently on their winter break and are next in action on Saturday, February 22, away to Sheffield United.

Nitrous oxide - known as "hippy crack" or "nos"- is a colourless gas which when inhaled from a balloon can make people feel euphoric and relaxed.

It is normally bought in pressurised canisters before being transferred to a container such as a balloon.

Although nitrous oxide is legal for certain uses such as in catering aerosol cans and in engines, it is illegal to sell or import the drug for human consumption in the UK.

It is still legal in most foreign countries.

Inhaling the drug directly from a cannister or in a confined space can cause sudden death through lack of oxygen.

Heavy and regular use of the drug can cause a deficiency of vitamin B12 and a form of anaemia.

A Home Office statement on the drug said: "Nitrous oxide is covered by the Psychoactive Substances Act and is illegal to supply for its psychoactive effect.

"However, the Act provides an exemption for medical products. Whether a substance is covered by this exemption is ultimately one for a court to determine based on the circumstances of each individual case."

This isn't the first time Premier League stars have been caught taking the substance.

In 2018, a number of Arsenal players were seen taking hippy crack on CCTV footage.

Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, and Matteo Guendouzi were seen inhaling the drug from balloons in the video.

In 2015, then-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was forced to speak out after Raheem Sterling was caught taking hippy crack.

Speaking in a press conference, he said: "For me, it is something that when you are a professional sportsperson at the top, I don't think it is something you should be doing. It is as simple as that."
