Derek Adams happy as Morecambe pull clear of relegation place

Morecambe boss Derek Adams was a happy man after his side’s vital 2-0 victory in this bottom of the table clash with Macclesfield.

First-half goals from Toumani Diagouraga and Aaron Wildig gave the Shrimps the points as they pulled further clear from the bottom of the table.

Adams said: “It was a vital win for us tonight because it took us eight points clear of Stevenage, above Macclesfield and closer to the teams ahead of us.

“The conditions made things really difficult but we dealt with them well in both halves.

“We started the game on the front foot and scored two good goals and could have had more before the break to be honest.

“We knew we would have to defend well in the second half and we did that and limited them to very few opportunities directly on goal. To get a clean sheet was a big boost for us well. We kept our shape and could have scored ourselves on the break.”

Macclesfield boss Mark Kennedy said he was “furious’’ with his side’s performance.

He said: “Nobody likes losing but I am beyond furious with what I have seen.

“The lads are honest and incredibly humble but some of the things we saw tonight weren’t good enough.

“I was angry with both their goals. The marking was so poor for the first goal that I saw it coming a few moments before it did and the second goal was mind boggling in its naivety.

“We told them to shoot on sight in the second half and we didn’t do that. It wasn’t until the 83rd minute that their keeper made a save and that wasn’t good enough.

“The end product in the final third was poor and we need to recognise the elements better.

“The conditions were horrendous but they dealt with them better than we did.

“We need seven players to be seven out of 10 and we were nowhere near that tonight.”
