Leaders Cove Rangers slump to defeat at Elgin

Ladbrokes League Two leaders Cove Rangers saw their seven-match unbeaten run come to an end with a 3-0 defeat at Elgin.

Kane Hester fired the hosts into an early lead after just two minutes when he latched onto a short backpass.

Defender Stephen Bronsky headed in a second from a corner after 23 minutes.

Any hopes of a comeback were all but ended soon after the restart when Rory MacEwan nodded home a third.

The Black and Whites sit fourth while Cove Rangers, who had drawn at lowly Albion last weekend, saw their lead cut down to three points after Edinburgh City beat Annan 3-0.

Daniel Handling scored both goals, the first from the penalty spot in the 17th minute before drilling home a second just after the hour.

Liam Henderson added a third for City in stoppage time following a free-kick.

Albion pulled further clear of trouble after thrashing bottom club Brechin 4-1 at Cliftonhill.

The visitors, who started the afternoon six points behind their hosts, had taken the lead through a penalty from Kieran Inglis after 22 minutes.

Declan Byrne, though, scored twice just before the interval to turn the match around.

Daniel Scally made it 3-1 in the 51st minute and Scott Roberts soon added a fourth for the Wee Rovers.

Stenhousemuir drop below Albion to ninth after a 2-2 home draw against promotion-chasers Cowdenbeath.

Greig Spence put the hosts ahead after seven minutes but Jordan Allan (28) equalised and Graham Taylor (31) got a second for the Blue Brazil.

Midfielder David Hopkirk, though, levelled things up just before the hour to earn Stenhousemuir a point.

Peter Grant’s late goal helped Queen’s Park to a 3-1 win at Stirling.

Frenchman Dylan Nguene Bikey had given the Binos the lead on 25 minutes, but substitute Kieran Moore (72) equalised midway through the second half.

Just when it looked like both sides would have to settle for a draw, defender Grant, on loan from Morton, lashed in a long-range effort with five minutes left.

Moore then added his second of the game deep in stoppage-time.
