Embleton confident Orient are heading in right direction after win at Stevenage

Leyton Orient boss Ross Embleton believes his side are heading in the right direction after Ruel Sotiriou’s brace helped them to a 3-0 victory over Stevenage.

The 19-year-old striker, who was on loan at non-league Dover earlier in the season, scored in either half while Ousseynou Cisse also found the net.

The win sees Orient jump to 18th in the Sky Bet League Two table, 12 points above the drop zone, and there is cause for optimism at the moment if you ask Embleton, while special praise was also reserved for Sotiriou.

“I feel there’s a belief in the group that we are heading in a direction with the way that we are going about our games and we will be embracing the challenge of whoever we face at the weekend,” Embleton said.

“The thing we have all been discussing has been trying to build consistency.

“Consistency isn’t two-and-a-half games; it is longer term – bigger plans and then you make sure you get the results on the back of those performances.

“We’ve picked up a great win here and we need to build on that and carry that momentum on.

“We’ve had a good transfer window and I’m looking forward to seeing what the new players can do.

“I’m absolutely delighted for Ruel. He’s scored two great goals today.

“He works so hard, he’s got huge potential and he will be full of confidence going forward.”

Defeat for Stevenage, who had several chances well stopped by Orient goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, leaves them four points off safety at the bottom of the League Two table after their third successive league loss.

And manager Graham Westley was left embarrassed by the latest disappointment to befall his side, albeit he is now looking for them to use their negative feelings as motivation.

He said: “It’s an embarrassing feeling to be at your home ground and your fans are leaving with 20 minutes to go.

“It’s an embarrassing feeling to be in your dugout watching your team labour and toil without any real sense of purpose.

“We didn’t look like going forward and scoring goals until the last 20 minutes.

“We made some young changes and put freshness into the outfit and we looked better.

“What you’ve got to do with that embarrassing feeling is harness it and as a manager you’ve got to look at your team selection.

“As players you’ve got to take responsibility of the job you’ve been asked to do and whether you’ve done that to the best of your ability.

“As a collective you’ve got to look long and hard in the mirror and recognise you’re fighting for your lives and decide what you’re going to do about it.”
