Sammie Szmodics hit a brace as Peterborough leapfrogged Ipswich into third place in Sky Bet League One following a comfortable 4-1 victory.
Ivan Toney and Siriki Dembele were also on target for Posh at Portman Road, while James Norwood hit the solitary Town goal.
Posh took the lead in the 23rd minute when Dembele was adjudged to have been fouled in the penalty area by James Wilson. Referee Andy Woolmer initially gave a goal kick but after consulting with his assistant Nigel Lugg pointed to spot and Toney converted.
Goalkeeper Will Norris gifted the visitors a second goal nine minutes later when his attempt to dribble the ball out from the six-yard box was intercepted by Szmodics who nudged the ball into an empty net.
Peterborough extended their lead through Dembele in the 50th minute when he fired a shot across Norris and Szmodics added a fourth in the 74th minute before Norwood reduced the arrears with a penalty five minutes later.
