Marcel Ritzmaier could go straight into the Barnsley side for Saturday’s Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield.
The Austrian midfielder completed his move to Oakwell this week from Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger.
The Tykes are set to be without top scorer Cauley Woodrow again as he struggles to recover from a hamstring injury.
Mallik Wilks could return after illness, while Samuel Radlinger, Aapo Halme and Mike-Steven Bahre are pushing for recalls after being left out for last week’s FA Cup win at Crewe.
Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley is expected to give a number of players late tests ahead of the game.
Tommy Elphick (knee), Alex Pritchard (knee), and Collin Quaner (hip) all missed the FA Cup defeat at Southampton.
Elias Kachunga is also struggling to recover from an ankle injury which ruled him out at St Mary’s Stadium.
Cowley has no new injury concerns, but is without Jonathan Hogg who begins a two-match suspension after picking up 10 bookings.
